KARACHI, March 25: A bench of Sindh High Court, comprising Justice Musheer Alam, on Saturday restrained the Pakistan Hockey Federation from interfering into affairs of Karachi District Hockey Association.

The orders came on a plea moved by Gulfraz and other office-bearers of KDHA against Tariq Kirmani, President PHF, Brig Mussarratullah Khan, Secretary PHF and others.

The plaintiff challenged the act of PHF of constituting a committee to select team to represent Karachi in different tournaments. The plaintiffs maintained they had been elected on March 12 and duly notified officially on March 13.

They also maintained that the tenure of both President and Secretary PHF had expired and now they could not in any way interfere with the working of the district hockey association.

The plaintiffs, moving an application through their counsel Barrister Faroogh Naseem, prayed to the court “to restrain the defendants from over-riding the elected body and select a team to represent Karachi in hockey tournaments.”

The court was prayed to “declare the plaintiffs as alone duly elected members of KDHA for a tenure of four years (2006-2010), to declare that annulment of newly-elected body by defendants as illegal, malafide and arbitrary”.

They also prayed the court to declare that president and secretary of PHF are no longer the office-bearers of PHF and have no power and authority to interfere with the affairs of KDHA.

The bench with interim order put off further hearing to a date to be fixed later.—APP
