SWABI: Three people, including a minor, were killed in rain-related incidents here on Sunday, according to officials.

They said that a teenager was rescued as the first torrential rain of monsoon season lashed the district. Several areas were inundated due to the rain. Rescue workers remained busy for the whole day in removing water from houses in low lying areas.

Luqman Khan, a rescue official, said that as soon as the control room received information, a rescue team immediately reached the spot and started search for recovery of dead bodies.

A man identified as Rahim Gul drowned in Gohati canal. The deceased hailed from Missry Banda of Gohati region. Search for his dead body was under way till filing of this report.

In Mal Lara in Swabi city, 22-year-old Tahir Khan drowned in a local Badrinullah and his body was recovered by rescue team after a few hours struggle.

Similarly, six-year-old Yahya Khan also drowned in Adina Badrinullah. A rescue team was called from Mardan to help in search for the body.

Local divers rescued a 15-year-old boy from floodwater in Tandkoi area. The boy was identified as Rehan Khan, a resident of Tandkoi village.

In Naro Kallay, the house of Azar Khan was badly damaged when floodwater entered it. People in other localities remained busy in draining water from their houses.

In many areas, vehicular traffic remained suspended as roads were submerged. Supply of electricity was also suspended to most areas due to rain.

The Topi Badrinullah was in high flood, disrupting the flow of traffic on Topi-Tarbela road for several hours. The Maneri Badrinullah was also in high flood.

“Due to heavy rain in different areas of Swabi, rescue teams are busy in removing water with the help of dewatering pumps,” said Luqman Khan.

Meanwhile, on the directives of deputy commissioner, the assistant commissioner, Izza Irshad, who was monitoring flood situation for the entire day, visited the rescue office in Shahmansoor and exchanged views with emergency officer Noman Khan.
