SUKKUR: A heavily armed gang of dacoits attacked a police check-post and killed two policemen within the limits of the Aandal Sundrani police station of Ghotki district late Saturday night.

They stormed check-post No. 47 at Bachao Bund and started indiscriminate fire on the policemen manning it. After killing the policemen, the gang took away official weapons and ammunition.

According to the district police, more than 15 armed dacoits had attacked the check-post.

The deceased policemen were identified as constables Abdul Qadir Mahar and Zaheer Ahmed Thaheem.

The bodies were shifted to the Ghotki Taluka Hospital for a postmortem examination after which they were brought to the SSP Office in Mirpur Mathelo for funeral prayers.

SSP Dr Sumair Noor Channa, DSP Ubauro Hafiz Qadir Chachar, Rangers DSR Mohammad Iqbal and others took part in the funeral along with members of the bereaved families and local residents.

Meanwhile, Ghokti SSP Sumair Noor Channa told the media that the gang which carried out the attack was led by Rahib Shar.
