BAHAWALNAGAR: A man, whose wife was burnt alive in a fireworks explosion a day ago, was arrested here on Monday for illegally keeping fireworks and causing the death of the woman.

A first information report registered with Chishtian B Division police said that Akhtar Ali of Basti F/46 had set up a fireworks shop inside his house. On Sunday at about 4pm, the fireworks material exploded at the house when Akhtar was trying to check it.

The FIR said the fireworks hit his wife Shamim Akhtar and two-year-old grandson Asad. Resultantly, Shamim died on the spot because of critical burns and poisonous gases while the minor child suffered injuries. The case was registered under sections 285/286 and 322 of Pakistan Penal Code.
