BAHAWALNAGAR: Five labourers were buried alive on Monday while digging a well at 432/6R village, Faqirwali.

District Officer (Emergency) Rao Sharafat told Dawn that the labourers identified as Qamar (16), Zain (22), Rizwan (27), Goga (31) and Irfan (35), were digging earth inside the 14-foot-deep well when its wall collapsed on them.

He said upon receiving information about the incident, Rescue 1122 teams reached the spot and launched an operation to recover the labourers.

He said that after hectic efforts, the rescuers retrieved bodies of four labourers, while the fifth was found critically injured.

The injured man was rushed to the hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
