BADIN: A local leader of Grand Democratic Alliance, who was considered to be a close ally of former Sindh Home Minister Dr Zulfikar Ali Mirza, was kidnapped along with his friend allegedly by some men in plainclothes and uniformed police officials on Tuesday.

Family sources said that Ghulam Mohammad Alias Dilbar Sindhi was returning from his agricultural farm near Tando Bago in his vehicle when some men in civvies and police officials stopped his vehicle at Waril Shah bus stop and abducted Dilbar as well as his friend Faisal Cheema in a waiting Vigo double cabin escorted by police mobile vans.

As the news about their abduction reached Tando Bago, traders pulled down shutters of their shops in protest and hundreds of GDA workers, friends, relatives of the kidnap victims and a large number of general public took to the streets and later observed a sit-in in front of National Press Club.

The protesters condemned the enforced disappearance of the GDA leader and his friend and said it was completely unfair, unjust and an act of terrorism.

Dilbar’s brother Intezar Mehdi Khuwaja said that he had been in constant contact with police since the abduction of his brother but police officials were not disclosing anything about the incident.

The GDA workers, Sikandar Ali Khuwaja, Khuda Dino Shah, Sikandar Ali Memon, Ishaq Junejo and others said that the family and friends of Dilar were highly concerned at his enforced disappearance as they feared for his life.

He faced many health issues and he might be subjected to torture and ill-treatment in.
