THE social media has been awash with reactions to reports carried by segments in the national media about the intercepted telephone call that exposed the latest plan of the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) to create mayhem and chaos in Pakistan. The plan comprised attacks on state-run educational institutions as well as the residences of law-enforcement and military personnel.

The TTP has a long history of targeting educational institutions in the country with the aim of spreading unrest, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). There is an urgent need for the authorities to take swift action against TTP terrorists. The government and the military must work in tandem to ensure the safety and security of the people, especially in vulnerable regions like the KP. The international community must also acknowledge the seriousness of the threat that is posed by the TTP, and should support Pakistan’s efforts in combating terrorism.

Moreover, the people of Pakistan demand and deserve peace and stability. It is the responsibility of the authorities to ensure that TTP and other terrorist groups are held accountable for their heinous plans and actions.

It is the responsibility of the government to deal with an iron hand with those who favour the TTP directly or indirectly, and have been resisting the government’s latest plans to counter terrorism.
