KARACHI: Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi has imposed a four-day ban on holding public gatherings and rallies within the city’s Red Zone.

According to a notification issued on Friday, “The police administration of South Zone informed that protests, demonstrations, sit-ins, rallies may be held by miscreants who may cause security issues, law and order situation and damage to the public and private properties.”

Therefore, the police had requested for imposition of a ban under section 144 of the criminal procedure code on “all kinds of gatherings within the jurisdiction of Red Zone, District South Karachi in order to avoid any untoward incident”, the notification said.

The commissioner imposed a complete ban on all kinds of gatherings of more than four persons within the Red Zone in district South for a period of four days — Friday to Monday.
