RAWALPINDI: A woman was gunned down near Fauji Foundation Hospital Defence Chowk on Friday apparently over some family dispute.

Police said the woman, in her mid-60s, a resident of Bahria Town’s phase VIII, was driving her car. When she reached opposite to the Fauji Foundation hospital, she came under a gun attack by some unidentified persons. As a result she died on the spot. Police said the motive behind the murder seems to be a family dispute. Later, her body was handed over to her family after postmortem.

Meanwhile, over 160 incidents of street crimes were reported to the police on Thursday in which 39 motorcycles, 66 mobile phones, four cars, gold jewellery and other valuables were snatched and stolen.

The worst hit areas included New Town, Banni and Sadiqabad where the people lost motorcycles, mobile phones and cash. However, all of the cases were registered with the police and investigation was launched.

Mohammad Sohail Akhtar complained to the Cantonment police that some unidentified thieves stole away cable worth Rs2.2 million.

Ahsan Ali, a resident of Dhamial area was standing with his two friends during load shedding when they were held at gunpoint by a robber who snatched three cell phones from them and escaped.

Rashid Zahoor, a resident of Kallar Syedan, lodged an FIR with the police saying that some unidentified thieves broke into his house and escaped with Rs60,000 and gold jewelry worth Rs400,000.

Raja Mehmoodul Hassan complained to the Canonment police that he was leaving a bank branch after withdrawing Rs100,000 when he was intercepted by three unidentified motorcycle riders who snatched cash from him and sped off.
