RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC) on Saturday opened a painting exhibition to showcase the work of students from the fine arts department of the Rawalpindi Women University.

Vice Chancellor Dr Anila Kamal inaugurated the exhibition.

Director of the Arts Council Sajjad Hussain and renowned curator Dr Arjumand Faisal attended the exhibition as special guests. The exhibition attracted a large number of visitors from the twin cities, with more than 40 students participating in the exhibition. The exhibition was part of the final thesis for the Bachelors of Fine Arts qualification.

The primary aim of the exhibition was to highlight the expressive work of the university students. The displayed works included figurative art, landscapes and depictions of cultural life, rendered with vibrant colours to convey deep emotions.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Anila Kamal noted the uniqueness of each painting and the plethora of emotions held within it.

“Art is a very powerful medium to convey messages and influence people. Using colours effectively, the artist has adorned the canvas with their thoughts and ideas through the beauty of art in a distinctive manner,” she said.

RAC Director Sajjad Hussain said that encompassing various themes in one exhibition is also an art. “The Arts Council has always provided a platform for the youth to showcase their work to the world,” he said.

Mr Hussain said the provincial government was providing the platform of art councils across the province for the promotion of art and culture. He said students were encouraged to present their talents. Apart from this, he said the government’s initiatives for the welfare of art and artists in Punjab were exemplary.

“It is patronising all forms of fine arts,” he added.

Curator Dr Arjumand Faisal remarked that colours did not need a language; they spoke for themselves. Artists always play a positive role in society.

“We should encourage the younger generation towards art along with traditional education,” he said.

Letters of appreciation were distributed among the participants at the end of the exhibition.
