LAHORE: The Punjab Police commemorated Police Martyrs Day with great enthusiasm and reverence on Sunday. The main ceremony was held at the Police Training College, Chuhng.

Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Usman Anwar was chief guest while Commandant DIG Mehboob Aslam Lilla and the families of martyrs attended the ceremony.

The IGP distributed 65 laptops among the children of the martyrs based on their academic performance. The children were given bicycles and other gifts too. The children recited poems and read out tribute articles in memory of the martyrs.

Dr Anwar paid tributes to the sacrifices of martyrs, calling them real heroes. He said nothing could replace the eternal sacrifices of police martyrs and there was peace in society due their sacrifices. He said Aug 4 is marked as a symbol of the unwavering resolve of the police force.

The IGP said Rs10m were given to the 100 police force ghazi officers who stood firm against bullets. The ceremony included the lighting of candles at the Martyrs’ Memorial.

Special ceremonies were held in all districts of the province to mark the day.
