RAWALPINDI: Six robbers stormed a commercial bank branch in Humak Town and escaped with Rs9.7 million after taking the staff members hostage at gunpoint on Monday.

Police sources said that the bank staff was busy with customers when a gang of six robbers entered the bank and held clients and staff present there hostage.

The robbers looted Rs9.7 million from the bank and sped off in a white car.

The robbers took more than 30 minutes to complete their job. Though police were alerted at exit points of the city, the culprits escaped with the looted items.

In a similar incident, a travel agent was robbed of Rs650,000 by two robbers in the limits of Rawat police on Monday.

Aqueel Ahmad, a resident of Kallar Syedan, was on his way to his office in Islamabad in his car when he was intercepted by two motorcycle riders. Aqueel was forced to stop his car and threatened to kill if cash was not given up to them.

The robbery victim was injured after being beaten by the robbers, before they escaped with the looted items.
