BAHAWALPUR: A sum of Rs500m has been allocated for the upgrade and renovation of the general bus stand in Bahawalpur.

This was stated by Deputy Commissioner Zaheer Anwar Jappa in a meeting with Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan here on Tuesday.

The minister inspected the bus stand here as well as in Lodhran and issued directions to improve the conditions and facilities for the passengers at the bus stands.

The minister reviewed the fare lists with his emphasis on the concessional fares for passengers as the prices of petrol and diesel had reduced.

The minister said the Punjab government would purchase 3,000 new buses to improve public transport across the province. He directed the officers to implement of axle-load management, ban the use of LPG cylinders in public transport and take measures to minimise road accidents.

In his briefing, the DC said measures had also been taken for introduction of an e-ticketing system and the passengers would get the maximum facilities in the waiting rooms after the renovation. DPO Asad Sarfraz also briefed the minister.

LODHRAN: The district administration in Lodhran has swung into action for a strategy to take anti-flood measures after the flood warning in the river Sutlej.

It decided to take all possible measures to meet any eventuality to counter flood conditions in the river in two tehsils of Lodhran and Kahror Pucca.

According to Lodhran Deputy Commissioner Abdul Rauf Mahar, although there is no imminent flood threat, but pre-emptive measures had been initiated and they were prepared to face any flood situation in the river.

He said the identification of 24 flood relief camps sites comprising 214 rooms to accommodate 11,665 flood affected people had been completed. Besides, three tent villages with 400 tents capacity had been planned and an integrated emergency plan under the supervision of concerned ACs has been formulated.

TikToker held: The Kahror Pucca police in Lodhran district arrested renowned TikToker Adnan Aziz for hurling threats at a traffic warden.

According to FIR, on the complaint of traffic warden Mumtaz Ahmed, Adnan Aziz along with two other unidentified accomplices issued him threats for impounding his motorcycle that did not have a registration number plate. Police said Aziz’s two unidentified accomplices are yet to be arrested.
