KARACHI: A young woman was killed while her four family members were injured when the roof of their house collapsed and fell on them due to rain in Korangi Industrial Area on Tuesday, police and rescue services officials said.

Rescue-1122 official Hassaan Khan told Dawn that they received information about collapse of the house in Allahwala Town near ‘Nadir Baba Aastana’ at around 8:6am. Their rescue team rushed to the spot and recovered five persons from debris.

They were shifted to nearby Indus Hospital where one of them, identified as Seema Abdul Raheem, 29, died during treatment. When she was retrieved, she was unconscious as she had suffered wounds on her head.

Other wounded were identified as Iqra, 18, Samad, 4, Abdul Rehman, 6, and Tauqeer, 10.

The official said all victims were members of the same family. Mr Khan said that the incident appeared to be related to continued rains in the metropolis. It was a dilapidated house and plaster and parts of cement had been falling after rains but the family was not vacating it owing to some unknown reasons.

The family members were asleep when thick pieces of the cement fell down on them, he added.

Area police officer Asad Ali Chattha also attributed rain behind the incident.
