KARACHI: Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah has asked all members of the Sindh Assembly to take responsibility for managing and developing three schools in their respective constituencies to support education reform initiatives in the province.

In a letter to the MPAs, a copy of which is available with Dawn, he recalled that during the budget session in the assembly, an insightful proposal was floated suggesting that all MPAs should take responsibility for overseeing all schools in their respective constituencies.

The education minister said that adopting three schools in particular within each MPA’s constituency would be a commendable step towards ownership and the elevation of education standards in the province.

“By directly involving elected representatives in the management of schools, we can foster a sense of ownership and accountability at the grassroots level,” he said in the letter, adding that this approach would not only improve the quality of education but also encourage greater community participation in the betterment of the education process.“

Education minister asks provincial lawmakers to submit names of three schools each in a fortnight

Mr Shah requested all MPAs from both sides of the aisle in the provincial assembly to identify three schools within their respective constituencies to personally commit to managing and developing them.

He asked the MPAs to submit the names of the three schools to his office within two weeks.

Talking to Dawn, the education minister said that provincial lawmakers could introduce reforms and strengthen the system of checks and balances by engaging with teachers, parents, and the community.

He said that by adopting schools in their constituencies, the MPAs would contribute to enhancing education outcomes and implementing strategies for improving education standards and learning environments.

The minister added that the MPAs would be able to monitor progress and accountability by regularly assessing the schools’ performance and taking corrective measures as needed.
