WASHINGTON: President Nixon acknowledged yesterday [Aug 5] that he had ordered the Federal Bureau of Investigation to limit its Watergate inquiry in 1972 to hide the involvement of persons connected with his re-election committee. In a two-page statement released with little comment, Mr Nixon said he had withheld the information not only from the House Judiciary Committee but from his own counsel … before his Supreme Court appearance last month. However, according to US Treasury Secretary William Simon, Mr Nixon told his Cabinet today that he would not resign and intended to fight to the end to stay in office. Mr Simon told reporters that the President expressed disappointment that the odds were now running against him in the impeachment drive over Watergate, but he was determined to stay on.

[Meanwhile, as reported by news agencies from Quetta,] the Baluchistan Provincial Assembly … held detailed discussion on the law and order situation in the province. ... The senior Provincial Minister, Mr. Ghaus Bakhsh Raisani … said that the incidents of violence were the legacy of the former NAP Government. Even while NAP was in power … incidents of violence and vandalism were common.
