KARACHI: Two suspected robbers were shot dead in an alleged encounter near Vita Chowrangi in Korangi on Wednesday evening.

Korangi Industrial Area SHO Khalid Memon said that a police patrol spotted some suspects who were fleeing after looting a passer-by and chased them. In an ensuing exchange of gunfire, both the suspects suffered bullet wounds and died on the spot, he said.

The bodies were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a post-mortem examination.

The police claimed to have recovered weapons, snatched cell phone and a motorcycle from their custody.

The SHO said their identity could not be ascertained till late in the night.

Rangers man shot at, wounded

Earlier in the day, a Rangers man was shot at and wounded by armed motorcyclists in the same area.

SHO Memon said that Nizamuddin, 45, was riding a motorcycle when armed pillion riders shot him. He was not in uniform when the incident took place, he added.

He was shifted to the JPMC by an Edhi ambulance. A spokesperson for the charity said that it was a robbery-related incident. However, the area SHO said the motive was not clear.

Police Surgeon Summaiya Syed said that a bullet hit the Rangers man in the abdomen, travelled through the body and exited from his left thigh.
