WASHINGTON: Only one question was being asked in Washington today [Aug 7]: How much longer will President Nixon remain in office? The answers ranged from a week or 10 days to an indefinite number of months. But there appeared to be no divergence from the view that the President, determined though he may be to carry on the fight to remain in office, has not much longer to go and will either resign or be removed by the Senate. Congressional sources cautioned, however, that it was idle to speculate on how many more days Mr Nixon might have in the White House. The only prudent course, they said, was to anticipate that the impeachment process will take its course. — News agencies

[Meanwhile, as reported by agencies from Beirut,] Israeli air strikes against the Arab area of South Lebanon during the night caused no casualties, local and Palestinian Commando sources said today [Aug 7]. The sources said four Israeli war planes strafed areas around three villages with machine guns. … The Israeli air attacks followed a 45-minute exchange of artillery fire between Lebanese and Israeli forces in the border area. An official statement here said Lebanese guns opened fire and forced five Israeli half-trucks to withdraw.
