RAWALPINDI: The newly-posted chief traffic officer (CTO) of Rawalpindi, Beenish Fatima, assumed charge of her office on Friday and urged traffic wardens to ensure enforcement of laws.

She pledged to elevate Rawalpindi traffic police as the top force in the province.

As Rawalpindi’s first woman CTO, Ms Fatima was welcomed at the Traffic Police Headquarters with a salute from the traffic police squad and a bouquet of flowers was presented to her by the lady traffic assistant.

Beenish Fatima met DSPs and branch in-charges individually. She then visited all branches of the traffic headquarters and reviewed the facilities available to citizens at the race course.

The CTO Rawalpindi said traffic wardens and officials should treat citizens courteously, especially women and elderly citizens, adding that no effort should be spared in the services of the public.

She further said the traffic police were a disciplinary force and should ensure the enforcement of the law within its scope.

She directed the in-charge education wing to ensure the provision of effective awareness about traffic rules to the citizens, adding that seminars should be organised by various government and private organisations and educational institutions.

The in-charge driving school was also ordered to expand the scope of the ‘Women on Wheels programme’.

The CTO said circle officers should discourage illegal parking and trespassers and take legal action against them.

Ms Fatima appealed to the public to obey traffic rules, stressing that compliance ensures the safety of lives and reflects good citizenship.

The CTO Rawalpindi reiterated that they would soon elevate Rawalpindi Traffic Police as the top force in Punjab. The coming week will be observed as an accident prevention awareness week within Rawalpindi city.

The CTO Rawalpindi said they would ensure the uninterrupted flow of city roads by making the public follow lane lines free from unruly traffic.
