KARACHI: As Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited the city on Friday, the grapevine was rife with speculation that a change was afoot in the Governor’s House.

Although media reports suggested that the ruling coalition had all but decided to replace Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori, representatives of three political parties denied that any such move was on the cards.

While reports claimed that ex-bureaucrat Bashir Memon’s name was being considered for the post, sources in both the PML-N and PPP both denied that any such proposal had been discussed.

The former FIA DG, who stepped down in 2019, had joined the PML-N last year.

In a brief statement, the MQM-P also maintained that a proposal to change the Sindh governor was not under consideration at any level.

No one from the Centre has contacted us in this regard, the statement attributed to an MQM-P spokesperson said.
