LAHORE: Punjab IG Dr Usman Anwar on Saturday suspended three deputy superintendents of police (DSPs) on charges of misuse of authority and poor performance.

According to notifications available with Dawn, IG Dr Usman Anwar suspended three DSPs for misconduct, inefficiency, abusing power and poor performance.

DSP Headquarters Sahiwal and former SDPO Dehli Gate Multan, Muhammad Shehbaz Gul, SDPO Sadar Jhang, Muhammad Aslam, and SDPO Baragarh Nankana Sahib, Saleem Haider Shah, have been suspended.

DSP Saleem Haider Shah was suspended for benefiting suspects in various cases and issuing a false first information report.

DSP Muhammad Aslam was suspended for wrongfully naming two innocent people in an FIR and issuing an illegal detention order while DSP Shehbaz Gul was suspended for colluding with the land mafia.

The IGP said the Punjab Police is a disciplined force with a strict system of accountability, and further legal action will be taken against the suspended DSPs according to the rules and regulations.

Meanwhile, the IGP ordered to release Rs1.6 million funds for medical expenses to police employees stationed in various districts, including Lahore.

A sum of Rs300,000 was given to injured constable Zahid Mahmood from DG Khan for medical treatment and Rs200,000 to Ghazi Sub-Inspector Muhammad Bakhsh of Lahore for medical expenses.

Retired DSP Muhammad Amir Khan was given Rs400,000 for brain surgery, SI Syed Saqlain Raza was granted Rs300,000 for the treatment of severe illness, retired Langari Ghulam Farid received Rs150,000 for backbone problem treatment and private secretary Shaukat Niaz was issued Rs100,000 for eye surgery. Additionally, Rs100,000 were given to constable Haider Ali of PC Rawalpindi for leg surgery.
