KASUR: Mustafabad police on Monday lodged a criminal case under blasphemy sections against two women, including the owner of a private school and her maid, for allegedly desecrating and damaging pages of the Holy Quran in Rai Kalan village.

The video of the incident that occurred on Friday went viral on social media on Saturday. Hundreds of people from adjoining villages including Badarpur, Rai Kalan and Havalian gathered outside the school building after announcements were made through loudspeakers of mosques.

A heavy contingent of police also reached the village to control the situation. The first information report was lodged on the complaint of prayer leader Kashif Ali of the village mosque under section 295-B of Pakistan Penal Code against two women.

The complainant stated in the FIR that driver of the school van along with gardener of school made a video of the burnt pages and showed him (the complainant). It was further disclosed that maid burnt the pages over the direction school owner. District Police Officer Essa Khan Sukhaira said the situation was under control and the accused would be arrested soon.
