TOBA TEK SINGH: City police on Wednesday released Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) West Punjab senior vice president Advocate Adeel Safdar Chohan, who was arrested at Sarhand Colony before he was set to lead a PTI workers rally on Tuesday night from Kamal Chowk to Shahbaz Chowk.

He was detained at the City police station. Several other activists who were also arrested were released late on Tuesday night.

District PTI President Advocate Mian Abdul Basit said a crackdown continued for two days across all towns in the district to prevent party workers from joining the Independence Day celebrations, which the party leadership had announced would be observed on Aug 13.

RAPE: A Lahore police constable was arrested on Wednesday by Satiana police, Faisalabad, for allegedly raping a woman and blackmailing her by making a video of her viral on social media.

The complainant claimed in his FIR, registered by Satiana police, that the cop was previously stationed at the Jhok Ditta police post in Satiana a year ago. He alleged that the suspect, who was a friend, visited his home when his mother was alone and raped her at gunpoint while recording the assault.

The suspect then repeatedly blackmailed the alleged rape survivor with threats to release the video, leading to multiple assaults and the extortion of Rs30,000 from her. Recently, when she was unable to pay a further demand of Rs1 million, the video was made viral on social media.

Meanwhile, a press release issued by CPO Kamran Adil stated that the suspect had been arrested.
