LAHORE: A flag hoisting ceremony was held at the Lahore High Court (LHC) on the Independence Day.

The ceremony commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran and praises of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Acting Chief Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh, along with fellow judges, hoisted the national flag on the building of the LHC.

A contingent of police presented a salute to the acting chief justice and the judges.

The ceremony was attended by a large number of participants, including Registrar Abher Gul Khan, other officers, staff members, families, and children.

Addressing the participants, the acting chief justice said “the independence day reminds us of the sacrifices made by our forefathers.”

He said there is no doubt that the country is going through one of the most challenging times, but to navigate through these difficulties, people must truly adhere to the principles of faith, unity, and discipline as advised by the Quaid-i-Azam.

He said that in a democratic country, the judiciary holds a significant position as the guardian of law and individual rights. He maintained that an independent judiciary upholds the rule of law, ensures the delivery of justice, and maintains a balance among the various institutions of the state.

He said the Constitution provides full protection to the judiciary. He said the judiciary is responsible for ensuring justice and safeguarding fundamental rights in the country.

He also stressed that judicial reforms are a critical need of the present time.
