SWABI: People on Wednesday demanded dismissal from service of a constable, who had manhandled and kicked an elderly woman during a demonstration in Tordher area.

A video footage that went viral on social media showed a man and a woman indulging in an argument with police officials during the protest.

Meanwhile, the woman’s hand reached the beard of the constable, who reacted and kicked the woman with full vigour. Later, he pointed his Kalashnikov at the woman, but the people prevented him and took him aside.

Another woman, who accompanied them, said that her husband had been picked up by the police and there was no trace of him.

Abdul Karim, adviser to the chief minister on industries, commerce and technical education, told Dawn that the constable, identified as Nihar Ali, had been suspended by district police officer Haroon Rashid Khan.

However, the people plainly rejected the suspension and demanded the termination of the constable from service.

Meanwhile, a 17-year-old boy drowned in Swabi Badri Nullah while bathing on Wednesday, rescue officials said.

Rescue 1122 district emergency officer Owais Babar said a divers’ team recovered the body of the drowned youth, identified as Fawad Khan, a resident of Swabi Dara area.
