SARGODHA: Police claimed on Thursday to have seized a cache of prohibited bore arms while the suspected smugglers managed their escape firing on the raiding team.

According to City ASP Abdus Sami Sheikh, the smugglers were in the process of transporting the weapons to other locations. He said some of the seized arms are banned weapons that cannot be licenced.

A large consignment of prohibited bore ammunition was found concealed in sacks, ready for distribution. Acting on a tip-off near Sargodha city, the City Police Station and Urban Area Police Station conducted a joint operation, resulting in the recovery of seven prohibited SMG Kalashnikovs, 222 bore rifles, a 223 bore rifle, two 44 bore rifles, an M4 rifle, two 9mm semi-automatic pistols, three 30 bore mini pistols, three 30 bore pistols, twelve 12-gauge shotguns, a smart SMG rifle, and more than 1,200 rounds of ammunition.

The arms smugglers managed to flee the scene while firing at the police.

INJURED: Indiscriminate firing by unknown motorcyclists about one kilometer from Bhera Police Station left six people injured, including four men, a woman, and a child.

Two of the victims are reported to be seriously injured. All the injured were shifted to Bhera THQ Hospital for treatment.

The victims have been identified as Tahir, Irfan, Shafi, Zafarullah, Gulshan Bibi and Abdullah.

The family was standing on Bhera-Malikwal Road, waiting to welcome a family member returning home after performing Umrah when they were attacked by the unknown assailants.

DROWNING: Two children drowned in the Jhelum and a rescue operation is underway to recover their bodies.

The incident occurred in Hasan Portwana, a village in Kadhi. The victims, 15-year-old Rehman and 14-year-old Mohammad Akbar, drowned near Hamokha. Rehman, a resident of Sargodha Depot, had gone to visit his village Hamokha, where both boys were swept away while bathing in the river.

BUSES: The University of Sargodha has arranged two new buses to provide transportation facilities for students from Kot Momin and Jhawarian. These buses will start offering pick-and-drop services from Sept 2.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by chief guest MPA Mansoor Azam Sindhu, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qaiser Abbas, while Dean of the Faculty of Science Dr. Amir Ali, Director Implementation Dr. Rehana Ilyas, Chief Security Officer Ishtiaq Ahmed, Resident Officer Dr. Faheem Arshad, Director Riaz Shad, faculty and staff attended the ceremony.

Prof. Dr. Qaiser Abbas spoke of the university’s commitment to supporting its students in every possible way. He stated that these new buses are a part of our broader effort to enhance the educational experience for students, especially those coming from distant areas like Kot Momin and Jhawarian.

Mansoor Azam Sindhu said education is the backbone of our nation’s progress.
