CURIOUS PUBLIC

CURIOUS PUBLIC: Recently, two ad hoc judges have been appointed to help clear the backlog of pending cases in the Supreme Court. While the move is laudable as thousands of litigants have been waiting for years to have their cases heard and decided, the public is curious about the terms on which the appointments have been made. Will the judges get the pension as well as allowances of a retired judge, or salary and allowances of a serving judge, or both?

LOST SIGNALS: Cellular network in Johi town of Dadu district frequently becomes almost completely non-functional. Residents believe that the operators of mobile towers illegally sell the fuel supplied for power generators as well as the electricity generated by the site’s solar power systems to nearby households. The lack of required power dissipation for the towers is often the actual cause of lost signals. The relevant authorities should take action against the culprits.

IGNORING DIRECTIVES: Defying the directives of their superiors, traffic personnel in Karachi continue to ‘hunt’ in groups, stopping vehicles as well as inspecting documentation at various places in the city, especially in the vicinity of the Empress Market in Saddar. The commuters are greatly inconvenienced by the practice, particularly during peak hours. The practice should be avoided at least during rush hours to ensure an efficient flow of traffic.

DRUG ADDICTION: Due to the inc- ompetence and indifference of the local administration, Hub city has become a stronghold of drug peddlers. In every area of the city, drugs are being sold openly, while the police are doing their best to act as spectators. Is it not alarming that our young generation is getting abominably addicted to drugs? The government must take action to save our young generation.
