MANSEHRA: A man and woman were killed in separate incidents in the Oghi area here on Saturday with the police declaring them “honour killings.”

SHO of the Oghi police station Gul Nawaz told reporters that Mohammad Tahir had called his former wife to his hometown to settle a dispute over their son’s custody out of court but fired at her and accompanying Riazullah, injuring both.

He said that the injured were shifted to the Oghi civil hospital where the woman died, while the man was referred to the Ayub Medical Complex Abbottabad due to critical condition.

The SHO said Tahir divorced the woman earlier this year after accusing her of having extramarital relations with Riazullah.

Police say woman, man shot dead in separate incidents

He said that the woman’s family was given the body after doctors fulfilled medico-legal formalities.

Mr Nawaz said that the police had begun a search for the accused after registering an FIR of the murder.

Also, the Oghi police reported the killing of a herdsman.

The FIR said Mohammad Faisal was shot at by Mohammad Farasat, Mohammad Yasir and Taj Mohammad when he was grazing his cattle in a forest in the Namshar Jugran area.

The firing injured the herdsman whom the locals took to the civil hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

They handed over the body to the family after completing medico-legal formalities.

The police insisted that the attackers suspected that the deceased had illicit relations with a girl in their family.

They said they had registered an FIR and started raids to arrest suspects.

EXPIRED PESTICIDES: The district administration has launched a crackdown on expired and substandard pesticides and other agricultural medicines sold in Oghi and its suburbs.

A team comprising officials of the district administration, agriculture department and police paid surprise visits to stores of agricultural medicines and sprays and sealed a store for seizing a large cache of expired and substandard drugs.

“We have also fined many store owners for violating law and warned them against doing so in future,” said Oghi assistant commissioner Fahad Zia, who led the action along with agriculture officer Murad Khan.

He said expired and substandard pesticides and sprays damaged standing crops instead of increasing yields.

The team also checked the prices of agricultural medicines and fined and warned profiteers.

Meanwhile, the Kolai-Palas administration has announced plans to promote tourism and launch development projects in the region.

“These tourism and development projects will provide employment and other opportunities to youth,” deputy commissioner Ishtiaq Ahmad told reporters on Saturday.

He said a highly-equipped digital computerised library was being established in the district to offer free diplomas and training courses to youth.

“We are also going to open a career counseling service centre for youths,” he said.
