BAJAUR: A businessman was killed when unknown assailants opened fire at him here on Sunday.

Police and Rescue 1122 officials said the incident occurred near Tableeghi Jamaat Markaz in Sadiqabad town of Khar tehsil at about 8.30am.

They said Haji Sher Zameen, 65, was critically injured in the attack, and was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital where he died before receiving any medical treatment.

“Sher Zameen was parking his car outside the Tableeghi Markaz to attend a weekly consultative session when unknown attackers opened fire at him,” said DSP Abdul Aziz while quoting witnesses as saying.

Mr Aziz, who along with a team of police reached the spot, said the assailants managed to escape.

He said an investigation had been launched to trace the attackers and ascertain the motive behind the incident.

Meanwhile, a police official was wounded in a firing incident in Dag Qala area of Khar on Sunday evening.

Israr Khan, a police spokesman, said Habibullah, who was performing duty in the traffic police, was going home when he came under attack.

The injured was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Khar, where doctors referred him to a hospital in Peshawar. The police registered the case and started investigation.
