TAXILA: Four members of a family were killed and two others injured after the roof of the room in which they were sleeping caved in during heavy rain in Ahmedal village of Pindigheb in Attock early on Sunday, police and rescue sources said. They said that six family members of Zaheer Abbas, an employee of an oil field, were trapped under the debris. Local volunteers rushed to the spot and brought out the people trapped under the debris. All the six persons were shifted to hospital where 60-year-old Gohar Bano, her son Aliyan Khan, grandson Mehmood and granddaughter Romisa (both children of Zaheer Abbas) were pronounced dead. The wife and another son of Zaheer were admitted. Zaheer was on duty at the time of the incident.

Suspect arrested

A suspect wanted in 31 cases was arrested in injured condition after a shootout with police near Shahbazpur Dam in the limits of Pindigheb police station, a police spokesman said on Sunday. He claimed that the suspect was injured by firing of his own accomplices during an exchange of fire.According to the police spokesman, Naveed Rehman was wanted in various theft, robbery and snatching cases. Four theft cases were registered against him in August. He added that acting on a tip-off that the suspect was present with his other gang members near the dam, a team led by Station House Officer (SHO) Pindigheb Munawar Khan raided his hideout. Upon seeing police, the suspects opened fire which was retaliated. When the firing stopped, police found the wanted suspect in injured condition. Later, the injured was shifted to the tehsil headquarters hospital Pindigheb.
