MOHMAND: A woman was killed and six others, including children, were injured when the roof of a room collapsed in the Mulakhel Qandhari area of Safi tehsil on Monday.

A Rescue 1122 official said the injured were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, Ghalanai. Later, two of them were referred to a hospital in Peshawar in precarious condition.

The rescue official said the deceased was identified as the wife of Ghulam Syed.

Residents said that the women and children were guests at the house, having come from a nearby village to participate in an engagement ceremony.

Meanwhile, truck drivers blocked the main Peshawar-Bajaur highway in Ghalanai to protest heavy fines by the traffic police.

They demanded that district police officer Usama Amin Cheema take notice of the issue.

The truckers also complained that the minerals’ department earned millions of rupees tax from them, but the condition of the highway was worse, which damaged their vehicles. They said accidents on the road had become routine.
