LAHORE: Three police personnel have been arrested in connection with the mysterious death of a young man who was kidnapped from the Faisal Town area and recovered dead in the jurisdiction of Ichhra police here the other day.

According to initial reports, a young man, Farrukh Arshad, had died allegedly after falling from rooftop of private flats in Ichhra.

The family of Farrukh had lodged a kidnap case against unknown persons when they found his mobile phone switched off for many hours two days back.

A police official said the police had recovered the car of the deceased from Model Town on Tuesday and then found his body near Sharif Plaza. He said the locals told the police that Farrukh had died after falling from the flats’ rooftop.

He said as the police further investigated the matter, they found mysterious role of some police personnel and reached the conclusion that they had trapped the young man.

Investigations revealed the suspects (policemen) took Farrukh to a private flat rented by one of the them, he said, adding that apparently they were blackmailing the young man over some issue.

He said the investigators then traced the suspects through their mobile phone data and took three of them into custody. Another suspect, a constable serving in Dolphin Force, had fled the scene, he added.

The official said that further investigations were underway.
