KARACHI: A minor boy died and another rescued in critical condition a day after they went missing in Baldia Town on Wednesday, police said.

Ittehad Town SHO Ayaz Khan said the two minor children were found in critical condition from the trunk of a car parked at a garage near Khyber Chowk.

They were shifted to the nearby Murshid Hospital for treatment where three-year-old Usman Abdullah was pronounced dead.

The police said that both the children were relatives and lived in the same house. They went missing on Tuesday.

The SHO said that the owner of the garage, which is located close to the boys’ home, found them lying in the car trunk.

Police Surgeon Summaiya Syed said Usman’s body was brought to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi where doctors collected all relevant samples and reserved the cause of death till the receipt of the report of chemical examiner.

The other child was admitted to the National Institute of Child Health, she said.

The SHO said that the police were treating it as an ‘accident’.

The police hinted at the possibility that the children while playing locked themselves in the parked car and one of them died of suffocation.

Suspect shot dead in ‘encounter’

A suspected robber was shot dead while another arrested in wounded condition after an ‘encounter’ in Hyderi Market on Wednesday evening.

Shaheen Force of North Nazimabad chased the suspects who were fleeing after committing a robbery in Block-C. The suspects opened fire but the personnel remained safe.

The robbers then entered in the limits of Hyderi Market where after an exchange of firing from both sides, one suspect, identified as Danish Usman, was gunned down while his accomplice, Daniyal Asif, was apprehended in wounded condition.

The police claimed to have recovered one pistol, a snatched mobile phone and a bike from their custody. The body and injured were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
