KHYBER: A sportsman and a youth councillor, who was shot at by an unidentified person few days ago, died of his injuries in a hospital in Peshawar on Thursday.

Lowaid Shah, 25, was attacked with a pistol by an unidentified masked assailant on August 18 when he was coming out of Landi Kotal football stadium in the evening after watching a match there. The armed attack left him critically injured. He was shifted to Peshawar for treatment the same day.

Local police said that they had registered a case against the lone attacker and started investigations. However, they could not find any clue to the murder of the young footballer, who was very famous among his local fans.

Family sources said that they had no entity with anyone nor had the deceased received any threats from any quarters. Some people present on the spot when the incident occurred later told police that a masked man briefly talked to Lowaid Shah and then fired at him from a close range. The attacker managed to flee despite presence of a number of spectators.
