SARGODHA: A young man allegedly kidnapped a girl student from a school in Jhawarian and attempted to rape her. However, local residents overpowered him despite his firing at the crowd. The mob thrashed the suspect and handed him over to the Jhawarian police.

According to sources, the suspect was hiding near the girls’ school. During break time, when the students came out to get snacks, he grabbed one of the girls and tried to drag her to nearby fields at gunpoint.

The girl’s cries for help attracted the attention of nearby residents. Despite the suspect firing at them, the mob overpowered and thrashed him before handing him over to the police.

STRIKE: Local trader bodies have announced their support for a nationwide strike on Aug 28 and in this regard, Anjuman Tajran Block No 2 President Mian Muhammad Imran has accused the government of imposing arbitrary taxes and acting against the interests of the business community.

The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) has also decided to back the traders’ strike, with the Insaaf Trade Wing being mobilised for full participation.

PTI leaders, including Ms Zahid Mumtaz Kahlon, former provincial assembly candidate Abdul Wahab Mumtaz Kahlon, and ex-ticket holder Barrister Abdullah Mumtaz Kahlon, criticised the government for high electricity bills, which they claim are driving people to desperation, including suicide and increased robberies.
