LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Friday remanded the PTI’s Lahore President, Imtiaz Sheikh, in police custody for 10 days for his alleged role in an attack on police personnel outside the Zaman Park residence of former premier Imran Khan.

Racecourse police presented the PTI leader, also a member of the Punjab Assembly, before the court and sought his 30-day remand.

The investigating officer told the court that the suspect’s physical custody was required to recover a club he allegedly used to attack the police team. He said a photogrammetric test of the suspect also needed to be conducted.

A lawyer for the PTI leader opposed the remand, saying the police remained silent for one year and even maintained before the Lahore High Court that the MPA was not required in any case. He said the police arrested the MPA the other day only to stop him from going to Islamabad for a party rally.

The counsel stated that the police implicated the PTI leader in a fabricated case on political consideration, asking the court to reject the remand request and discharge Mr Sheikh from the case.

ATC Duty Judge Irfan Haider granted a 10-day physical remand of the PTI MPA with a direction to the police to produce him again on Sept 2.

disposed of: The Punjab government on Friday told the Lahore High Court that all the arrested/detained workers of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), including women, had been released.

A provincial law officer appeared before the court during the hearing of a petition for the recovery of PTI’s 20 female members and other workers who were allegedly detained ahead of the Islamabad rally.

He maintained before the court that all the detained or arrested workers had been released by the police.

At this, Justice Shakeel Ahmed disposed of the petition filed by Yousuf Rashid.

REMAND DENIED: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Friday denied further physical remand of the Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) leader Maulana Muhammad Tahir Saifi to police and sent him to jail on a judicial remand in a case of allegedly inciting people against the top judge of the country.

The police presented the cleric before the court on expiry of his previous remand and sought his further custody

However, Duty Judge Irfan Haider turned down the police request and sent the cleric on judicial remand for 14 days.

The cleric was first remanded in police custody on July 30 for seven days.

Several FIRs have been registered against the TLP leaders and workers in different cities since the party’s deputy emir Pir Zaheerul Hassan Shah issued a call for violence against CJP Qazi Faez Isa during a public rally outside the Lahore Press Club.
