LAHORE: Postgraduate Medical Institute Principal Prof Al-Fareed Zafar says more than 125m people worldwide are suffering from psoriasis (skin disease), which is not contagious and can be managed by proper treatment, lifestyle change and precautions.

He was speaking to the participants in an awareness walk and symposium held in connection with the global awareness campaign about psoriasis, organised by the Department of Dermatology of the Lahore General Hospital (LGH).

According to a press release, he said the family members should support, encourage and motivate the patient to undergo treatment and they should avoid quacks for further deterioration of this disease.

He said medical experts were doing research on psoriasis and they would hopefully be able to find a complete cure for this disease in the future. He said if a person had a red spot on his skin or a change in skin colour, they should immediately consult a skin expert to get rid of this disease with timely treatment.

“The state-of-the-art diagnostic test facilities are available in the skin department of the LGH for treatment of psoriasis and during the corona epidemic, this department performed its duties with zeal, hard work and dedication,” Prof Zafar said.
