LAHORE: The Safari Zoo Lahore will add more species of marine and freshwater fish to its huge aquarium, which is one of its kind in they country, Punjab Wildlife Department officials told Dawn.

The aquarium houses a number of fish species, including four sharks in a tank having 6,000 gallon water. Similarly there are other fish tanks as well that contain star fish, jelly fish and children’s favourite, Nemo fish.

The aquarium has a total of 18 tanks. The Safari has eight quarantine tanks as well for the sick fish or new ones to be included in the stock.

Mudassar Hassan, Project Director of Safari Zoo, told Dawn that the modern fish aquarium is a new experience for the visitors, as it also has sharks. He said the fish aquarium is attracting a large number of visitors.

He added that coral reef has also been introduced in the marine fish tanks. Hassan says that new animals are also being introduced in the Safari, including three elephants -- two females and one male -- besides nine giraffes -- three males and six females -- and a pair of rhinos.
