Mashreq, a leading financial institution in the MENA region, continues to make significant strides in environmental conservation through its Climb2Change initiative. Launched in November 2023 as part of Mashreq’s environmental, social, and governance commitments, the initiative aims to scale and clean the world’s highest peaks.

In July 2024, phase 3 of Climb2Change focused on K2 and Broad Peak in Pakistan, targeting waste reduction and environmental preservation. Led by renowned climbers and Mashreq ambassadors Maria Conceicao and Naila Kiani, the team extended cleanup efforts beyond base camp, collecting substantial waste. Conceicao made history as the first Portuguese woman to summit K2 on July 28.

Despite challenging weather, the team’s dedication exemplified Mashreq’s mission to “rise responsibly.” Muhammad Hamayun Sajjad, CEO of Mashreq Pakistan, highlighted the significance of this achievement, emphasising Mashreq’s leadership in environmental stewardship.

Mashreq Pakistan’s employees also participated in a multi-day expedition in Skardu, engaging in trail cleaning, educational sessions on environmental practices, and community interactions. This hands-on involvement underscores Mashreq’s commitment to fostering employee engagement in environmental conservation. Building on previous successes in Nepal, this latest expedition in Pakistan reaffirms Mashreq’s dedication to impactful environmental action through the Climb2Change initiative.
