BAHAWALPUR: President Anjuman-i-Tajran Bahawalpur Hafiz Khurram Saleem has announced supporting the strike call on Wednesday (today).

Addressing a meeting of shopkeepers and traders here on Tuesday, Khurram Saleem said all shopping centres, bazaars, plazas and markets in the city and other places of the district would observe a complete shutter down against the government’s taxation policy. He said the shopkeepers were ready to pay state’s taxes, which should be imposed in an rational manner.

He also condemned the increase in gas, electricity and petrol prices and demanded to bring the same down. He said the strike would be peaceful and all centres would remain closed on Wednesday (today). He added that complete strike would also be observed in Hasilpur, Ahmedpur East, Yazman, Khairpur Tamewali and other places in the district.

RAPED: A married woman was allegedly raped by an unidentified man near village Naharwali in the limits of police station Musafirkhana, about 20km from here on Monday night.

Complainant ‘H’ said he was allegedly attacked by a gang of three unidentified motorcyclists during journey along the road. Of them, two allegedly tortured him while the third forcibly took his wife into nearby fields where he raped her and managed to flee from the scene along with his accomplices.

Police have registered a case under section 376 and 496-A of Pakistan Penal Code.

ACCIDENT: Two-year old child Irfan was run over and killed by a tractor-trolley at village 10/BC railway crossing on Tuesday.

Reports said motorcyclist Zahid attempted to overtake the trolley but due to bumpy road, the boy fell down and was run over. Police are looking into the matter.

RAIN: The city and suburbs received rain on Tuesday, submerging the low-lying kachi abadis and localities in the old walled city areas.

The rain flooded the roads and streets causing a great deal of inconvenience to the inhabitants and shopkeepers on the Circular Road. At Fowara Chowk, the accumulated rainwater disrupted vehicular traffic. The rain also disrupted the supply of electricity in many areas.
