ISLAMABAD: A security guard was murdered and another injured during a street heist of over Rs30 million on Tuesday, police said.

The deceased security guard was identified as Mohammad Salman, 50, and injured guard as Tariq, they added.

The incident occured in the area of Shahzad Town police station when the security guards were returning to their cash van after collecting over Rs30 million from a bank. Police said a gang of robbers, lying in wait in a vehicle outside the bank, opened fire as the guards exited the bank with bags of money.

As a result, both guards sustained bullet injuries and fell to the ground, the police said. The robbers took the bags and escaped from the spot in the vehicle. One of the guards died on the spot, they added.

Upon being informed, the police reached the spot and cordoned off the crime scene. The deceased and injured were shifted to the hospital.
