RAWALPINDI: As many as 34 police officials were found absent from their duty points during Imam Husain’s Chehlum, which could have led to a potential security lapse.

As a result, those involved were awarded punishment of ‘forfeiture of two years’ service.

In Rawalpindi, the number of police personnel absent from their duties were fewer than 10. A senior police official said that such absences were typical during every major duty. However, none of them were awarded major punishments.

Among those punished, 16 were associated with the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), 13 from the Dolphin Force and two were lady constables.

This situation depicts their inefficiency, lack of interest, unprofessional and lethargic attitude while discharging their official assignments which proves them an inefficient police official and provides sufficient grounds for them to be awarded major punishments, the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Syed Ali Raza said in the order.
