SUKKUR: Unknown armed men shot dead another journalist, who was associated with a private Sindhi TV channel, in district Ghotki on Tuesday morning, police said.

They said that Muhammad Bachal Ghuniyo was killed when he arrived at his farmland in the Rwanti Katcha area within the remit of the Shaheed Din Muhammad Laghari police station in Mirpur Mathelo.

The area police said that they rushed to the spot as soon as they received information about the incident and shifted the body to the taluka hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Rwanti SHO Abdul Shakoor Lakho told the media that initial reports suggested that the journalist was killed by his relatives due to some old enmity.

However, shocked by the gruesome murder, the victim’s family and a large number of their relatives, journalists and social activists took the coffin to Mirpur Mathelo and staged a sit-in in front of the SSP office.

The demonstrators raised slogans against police and district administration and demanded immediate arrest of the killers.

However, they ended their protest when the police assured them of complete justice.

Later, DIG-Sukkur Pir Muhammad Shah directed the police to arrest the killers and conduct a transparent investigation into the case.

Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took notice of the killing of the journalist “in an attack by riverine area dacoits”.

According to a press release, he ordered the inspector general of police to arrest the killer forthwith and speed up the operation against riverine area gangs.
