BOLAN PASS

BOLAN PASS: The Bolan Pass offers the travellers a treacherous single-lane road on which accidents occur frequently, resulting in fatalities. Additionally, during the monsoon season, people witness severe traffic jams, mainly due to flash floods and issues with heavy vehicles. The devastating floods in 2022 had severely damaged the road, and even a small amount of rainfall causes hours or days of disruptions and road blockages. The problem of heavy vehicles is exacerbated by the long distance of the Bolan Pass, and the scarcity of nearby mechanical workshops. The National Highway Authority (NHA) needs to upgrade the road to double lane, and provide basic facilities for easy tr- avelling to facilitate the commuters.

UNFAIR CRITERION: Recently, the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) advertised nine posts of assistant director in the Wildlife Department. The eligibility criterion of these posts is rather illogical and irrational. The PPSC is accepting applications from candidates with a second division in MSc Zoology. However, it has set the bar high for the BS Zoology gr- aduates, and is accepting applications only from those with a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of at least 3.5. This requirement has left many BS Zoology graduates out of the race. The PPSC should amend the requirement criterion.

GIRLS HOSTEL ISSUE: In a recent press briefing, girl students of Chandka Medical College, Larkana, complained that a boy had reportedly entered the hostel. Despite informing the management of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University, no substantial action was taken. Instead, the vice-chancellor (VC) silenced the protesting students by registering an FIR against them. Besides, on the instructions of the VC, local police officials inhumanly arrested the innocent students and demanded a bribe for their release. The authorities concerned should resolve the issue immediately to normalise the situation, avoiding further chaos.
