KARACHI: As rain clouds loomed over the city on Wednesday there was also cloudy thinking regarding whether schools in Karachi should remain open or closed due to the wet weather. The various notifications and social media posts added to the confusion of parents.

First there was a notification issued by the District Central Deputy Commissioner who announced the closure of schools within the territorial jurisdiction of District Central on Thursday on the advice of the School Education and Literacy Department of the Government of Sindh.

Then in a second notification the same Deputy Commissioner’s office of District Central announced that it was revoking the previous order for a school holiday after looking at the latest advisory issued by the Pakistan Meteorological Department and the Provincial Disaster Management Authority.

Later to end all confusion, Mayor of Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab tweeted that he had spoken to the Commissioner of Karachi and that all schools in Karachi were to remain open on Thursday, come rain or shine.
