KARACHI: An infant girl was shot dead when a bullet went off ‘accidently’ from her father’s pistol in F.B. Area on early Thursday morning.

Azizabad SHO Imran Afridi told Dawn that the 11-month-old girl was gunned down inside her home in Block-3. The incident occurred at 3:20am.

Police rushed to the spot after receiving information and detained the father, Bilal, for interrogation, the SHO said. He added that during the initial probe, Bilal claimed that he was cleaning his pistol when the bullet went off and hit his infant daughter on the head, killing her on the spot.

The SHO said police were not ‘satisfied’ with his version and called mother of the deceased girl. However, she repeated a similar version. The officer said the police were further investigating the case.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.
