SWAT: A head constable was martyred and another critically injured in a grenade attack at a checkpoint in Mingora on the night between Wednesday and Thursday.

According to the police, two unidentified motorcyclists threw a hand grenade at the checkpoint around midnight.

The martyred cop was identified as Rahmanullah, a native of Miandam, Swat. He had joined the police force in 2016.

His funeral prayer was offered at the Javed Iqbal Sha­heed Police Lines, Swat.

It was attended by Mal­a­kand Regional Police Offi­cer Muhammad Ali Khan, Swat DPO Dr Zahidullah, Swat DC Shehzad Mehboob, SP Investigation Badshah Hazrat, SP Traffic Warden Habibullah Khan, Lower Swat Additional SP Ghulam Sadiq, SP Headquarters Zahoor Khan, and other police officials.

The martyred cop was buried with full official honours in his ancestral cemetery.

After the attack, several young persons staged a demonstration in front of the checkpoint to exp­ress solidarity with the police.

Mayor Shahid Ali Khan and Youth of Swat Presi­dent Saad Khan also participated in the demonstration.

During their speeches, the speakers said they would not tolerate any form of terrorism in Swat and pledged to stand by the police.

They hoped that the police would track down those responsible for this attack and bring them to justice.
