LAKKI MARWAT: Due to an effective control strategy, no dengue case surfaced in the district during the ongoing year, claimed an official of the Health Department here on Thursday.

Briefing a meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Fahad Wazir at his office in the District Headquarters Complex Tajazai, senior medical officials said that a total of 234 suspected patients were screened at different health facilities but no positive dengue case had come to light.

They said that the health department teams had inspected 84,546 houses and 94,467 outdoor sites in the district under the dengue control plan.

Experts told the meeting that along with conducting anti-dengue spray, the health workers also carried out larvicide activities at various places during the current year.

They said that the health department, with the support of the education department, municipal administration and other stakeholders, had also launched a massive anti-dengue awareness campaign besides distributing thousands of insecticide-treated mosquito nets among people in 31 rural union councils.

The deputy commissioner directed the officials concerned to conduct regular inspections of tyre shops and ensure the removal of stagnant water to deny breeding spots to mosquitoes.

Body recovered

The dead body of a 14-year-old boy was retrieved from the Kurrum River in the Hankai Kallay area.

A Rescue 1122 official said that a team of divers along with an ambulance vehicle was sent to the rural area when the control room received information about the drowning of a teenager.

The Rescue official expressed his ignorance about the identity of the deceased and said that the body was handed over to the relatives after completing formalities.
