SHANGLA: District Police Officer (DPO) Imran Khan has said that emergency rapid response units were established in the district police stations to ensure the safe movement of foreigners, especially Chinese nationals across the Karakoram Highway.

The DPO said in a statement that a meeting was held with senior police officials of various police wings in which it was decided to enhance the deployment of police personnel at sensitive places.

He said security at the entry and exit points of the district and Karakoram Highway had been beefed up and put on high alert amid the security situation, while the senior police officials had been ordered to ensure the safe movement of foreigners, particularly Chinese nationals.

The DPO also directed the police intelligence and surveillance teams to improve their performance and expedite action against the proclaimed offenders and anti-social elements, the statement added.

Expired food items

The district administration officials destroyed substandard and expired food items and beverages, seized from markets and shops in the various bazaars.

The deputy commissioner had ordered a crackdown on those vendors, selling substandard and expired stuff to consumers.

The substandard foodstuff, particularly, chips, snacks, biscuits, milk packs and beverages, were seized from the shops and markets and the sellers were also fined.
