OKARA: A bill defaulter, along with his two accomplices, allegedly manhandled a Lahore Electric Supply Company team, snatched a removed meter and resorted to aerial firing at Bonga Khan Singh village near Mandi Ahmadabad on Friday.

As per the forst information report (FIR), Mandi Ahmadabad Lesco Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Naseer Ahmed, along with Line Superintendent Hafiz Zahid, Lineman Shukat Qadri, Assistant Lineman Ghulam Mustafa Dogar visited the tubewell of Muzaffar Ali Wattoo.

Lesco officials say that Wattoo defaulted on payment of Rs221,610 electricity bill of his tubewell, and had also been using non-sanctioned power load. Despite issuance of repeated notices, he did not got the load regularized, they added.

As the Lesco team disconnected power supply to the tubewell and removed the meter, the suspect, his son Ahmad and another unidentified man resorted to aerial firing, manhandled the officials and forcibly snatched the power meter from them, besides damaging their official vehicle.

As the Lesco officials called on helpline 15, a police team reached the spot, rescued the team and recovered the meter from the suspects.

On the report of SDO, the police registered a case against the three suspects under section 506, 186 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

As per the FIR, Renala city police SHO, along with his team was on patrol near Renala bypass on Shergarh Road near Sahara City housing scheme in the city suburbs, when he was informed that three gunmen snatched a motorcycle, Rs3,000 from a man.

The police picketed a road, where they were shot at by three suspects riding two motorcycles on being signaled to stop.

The police returned the fire and following a crossfire, found a bullet-riddled body of an alleged criminal near the bypass, while his accomplice escaped.

The police said they found the snatched bike, a weapon with two bullets and 12 empties, besides Rs4,170 cash near the body, which was later identified as Abdul Shakoor, an alleged criminal belonging to 77/D village in Pakpattan district.

The police claimed he was was involved in more then three dozen heinous crimes and wanted by Sahiwal and Pakpattan police.

On the report of SHO Muhammad Arshad, a case was registered under sections 302, 324, 353, and 186 of the PPC along, along with section 13-2(a) of The Punjab Arms Amendment Ordinance 2015 and 20 of The Punjab Arms Ordinance 1965.
